The 2017 Innovators Retreat, Oases of Change, took place in Boston on May 17-18. Nearly 100 educators, funders, and other stakeholders from all over the country joined together to reimagine Jewish education in Jewish Day Schools.

what is the challenge?

Jewish education should inspire our children, providing the foundation for a Jewish life. By supporting initiatives that embody the creative and experimental spirit of the Jewish people, the Jewish Education Innovation Challenge seeks to reignite the passion for learning that the next generation deserves.

Open to any Jewish middle or high school, JEIC funds projects to demonstrate revolutionary, practical educational models that are sustainable, accountable and scalable. The goal of the Challenge is to make Jewish learning accessible to all students, and to improve the way Jewish values, literacy, practice and belief are transferred to the next generation. 

For the final round of the challenge, JEIC brings all of the finalists together in one room. At the innovators’ retreat, finalists will have the opportunity to meet the most forward-thinking leaders in Jewish education and speak with the Challenge’s judges and its funders. At the conclusion of the retreat, JEIC announces which of the finalists will receive a grant of up to $50,000 to make their proposal a reality.
