Online Judaic Studies Courses (OJSC) can help your program expand learning opportunities for teens. Courses cover topics such as Tanakh, Rabbinic Literature, Jewish History, Israel, Contemporary Jewish Issues, and Jewish Thought. OJSC is offered through VHS Learning, a nonprofit leader providing world-class online programs to students and schools everywhere.

In a digital age where teachers are competing constantly with devices and modern media for their students’ attention, Sulamot fuses Jewish texts with 21st century technology and media platforms, enabling Judaic studies teachers to communicate with their students in the same way their students communicate with the world. Sulamot’s unique methodology, COMDaT, allows students to build and develop independent study skills, learn new concepts, and apply them to Jewish studies, Jewish life, and Jewish living.

Lookstein Virtual Jewish Academy is an award-winning, accredited online school for Jewish studies that brings quality Jewish education to Jewish students everywhere, regardless of geographic location or ideological orientation. Its 30+ courses are available in online or blended formats and are designed with a constructivist approach to allow student discovery to drive the learning. They can be taught by the Academy’s or a school’s faculty.  Since its inception in 2014, more than 90% of participating day schools report that Lookstein Virtual Jewish Academy courses were “as good or better” than courses offered in their schools.

ALPS COURSES COVER TOPICS LIKE TEFILAH, ISRAEL, MISHNAH AND MORE!

A sample of offerings is below. For the full list of each providers’ offerings, click on their logo.

Sulamot LeCOMDaT Online (Grades 4-6)

Through Sulamot’s unique methodology in Mishnah, COMDaT, students build and develop independent study skills, learn new concepts, and apply them to Jewish studies, Jewish life, and Jewish living. Students learn a selection of Mishnayot (topics ranging from brachot to damages to lifecycle events) in an in-depth, engaging manner through watching videos, answering questions, and discussing applications with peers--all on the digital platform.

Sulamot LeBrachot Online (grades 4-7)

In this course, students also use the COMDaT methodology as they study bekiut and iyun components to master knowledge and skills in completing the masechet. The iyun section delves deeper into the reasons behind the Mishnaic laws and applies the principles and values of the Mishnah to everyday life. The COMDaT bekiut portion facilitates student learning of the Mishnah by dividing the Mishnah into phrases, classifying each phrase, and then connecting the phrases of the Mishnah to each other.

Inspirational Figures (Grades 7-9)

In this course, students learn about five Jewish figures from the twentieth century. All hail from varied backgrounds and take different paths, yet they are all intensely connected to Judaism and the Jewish people. Students reflect on their own Jewish experiences to begin to develop and consider their individual Jewish identity. Topics covered include Jewish culture, unity, volunteerism, Jewish memory, and more.

Who is Talmud? (Grades 7-9)

Sometimes students jump into Mishnah and Gemara study without seeing the big picture, the framework. Each unit in this course introduces the students to another Talmudic sage, and by honing in on a few central stories about the sage’s faith and practice, another piece of the Talmud comes to life. For students who have never learned Talmudic texts before, this history-Talmud course teaches easy to understand yet crucial concepts in Talmud study.

Mussar: Practical Ethics for Living a Meaningful Life (Grades 8-12)

Students will study and practice Mussar, which teaches us how to act according to our highest values. This course helps students to make choices aligned with their best selves.

Preparing for College Life: The Complexities of Jewish Identity and Israel (Grades 11 and 12)

Jewish students may face an array of challenges when they start college. Students in this course will learn about and reflect on those potential challenges. The course also emphasizes the importance of practicing civil discourse.
